Movie Night on the Egg Lawn

On Friday, August 21st Floyds Fork Park hosted a movie night on their Egg Lawn.  The moving being shown was The Lego Movie.  It was scheduled to begin at 8:30 and end at 10:00.

Around 7:30 Chris, Claire, and I arrived with our blankets, pillows, and snacks.  The lawn was already getting busy, but we were able to easily find a spot.  After setting ourselves up we listened to music by Paul Simon (which was being played over the loudspeaker).  Claire loved it!  She danced and had a good time.  Chris and Claire took a walk and discovered that they were offering free popcorn and water - score!

Once they came back it was about 8:15 - nearly show time!  We were seated on our blankets and ready to enjoy a great evening when it happened.  A large family arrived, squeezing themselves (and their chairs) right in front of us.  Our view was now ruined.  Frustrating, but it happens.  We looked around for another place to sit, but as the movie was getting ready to start, the only place to sit would have been too far to the side for us to really see anything.  So we manipulated our bodies and watched the movie through random gaps.  It was not ideal to say the least.

Would we go to another movie in the park?  Yes, but not without chairs.  Sitting on the ground made us vulnerable to having our view blocked by others.  There was also moisture settling on the ground and by the time we left our belongings were damp.

My advice:
*Get there early
*Bring chairs and snacks
*Be considerate of others!  (always good advice if you ask me)
*Bring a blanket as it gets chilly!

There is another movie playing on September 4th at 8 pm: McFarland USA.  We will not be attending that movie as we will not have our chairs, but if you have chairs I would definitely recommend attending!

The Parklands of Floyds Fork Playground

Since visiting and moving to Louisville my daughter and I have spent time discovering some of the local parks.  Many of the parks have a playground, and a few have also had splash areas.  However, out of all the parks we have visited The Parklands of Floyds Fork is our favorite, and here is why:

1. It is large.  There is so much to do at this playground!  There are the traditional swings and slides, but also multiple things to climb on, an area for little ones, and a splash park.  Here are some pics of Claire enjoying the equipment:

2. It is clean.  I even used their public restroom (something I loathe doing) and it was not at all bad.

3.  The beautiful scenery.  Look right over the fence and here is what you see:

It is pretty in the picture, but gorgeous in real life.

In conclusion, my family will definitely be returning to The Parklands of Floyds Fork often!
